Wallpaper borders are generally used to accentuate but there's more to them than meets the eye. Combined with unique artistry, you can accessorize your wall with architectural details by simply rolling out a wallpaper border.
Wallpaper borders, inarguably, give a distinctive impression to a room. With so many types of borders available, your job is to simply match them with your existing wallpaper and you'll end up with a charming wall. While it is true that discount wallpaper borders can be bought in many stores you should bear in mind that when it comes to products, you usually get what you pay for – which means you could be getting seconds for a cheaper price. On the other hand, it is never bad to spend more money on other designs as long as you get the best for your wall.
Adding accent and texture on your wall can be accomplished by choosing a natural-looking wallpaper like a bamboo-patterned one. Placing four layers of these, one after the other, gives the appearance of stacked borders above the wall. This treatment starts at the ceiling line and will appear like an intricate crown molding.
A narrow cut created at the bottom of the molding border acts as the narrow bottom edge of the treatment that occupies about three quarter up the wall. Two rows of plant-print border is positioned between the faux moldings. Framing two botanical prints make them appear like paneling rather than paper. A thick wallpaper border makes the ceiling look higher while simultaneously accentuating an otherwise ordinary, plain wall.
Wallpaper borders are actually wallpapers themselves. The only difference comes in their relative size and the means of installation. The conventional wallpapers are affixed vertically starting at the ceiling down to the floor. Wallpaper borders, meanwhile, are applied horizontally.
The conventional wallpaper rolls are usually 21 inches wide and 20-30 long while wallpaper borders are only 6-9 inches in height but 20-30 feet wide that's why they need to be applied horizontally since they only serve as complements to wallpapers. Wallpaper borders are usually applied on a surface where the wall is adjacent to the ceiling. Alternatively, it could also apply as a partition of two different wallpapers.
Take for instance a safari wallpaper border that unifies a botanical and safari wallpaper designs so it would appear that both are the same wallpaper. The border adjoins together two differently designed wallpapers. Installing wallpaper borders is easier than applying an entire wallpaper mainly because you are working with lesser material.
The process of installing would be much similar to the traditional wallpapers and you will need the same tools, too. Additionally, a measuring tape is necessary to accomplish the task, as well as a stepladder, sponge, and a number of buckets of water. A 4-inch paintbrush will also come in handy in applying an activator for paste. Since the wallpaper border is kind of long, a working platform will be needed when a type of adhesive would be applied at the back of the material.
To make sure the wallpaper border stays in place for the longest time, do not rely on the pre-pasted adhesive that comes with the manufacturing since these may not be suitable to the surface you are applying the border on such as vinyl wallpapers. Instead, look for a heavy-duty adhesive that can gain traction very well.
When removing wallpaper border, there are several ways you can do depending on the type of surface it was applied on and the adhesive you used with it. In most cases, spraying a special solution all over the wallpaper border helps. If this doesn't do, mix equal parts of vinegar and water and spray it on the wall. You can use a boring tool to poke holes on the border in order for the liquid to soak quickly.
Wallpapers and wallpaper borders are like an inseparable duo. And you will soon discover that the other complements the other.
