Wall Texturing

Wall texturing is a decorative treatment used as finishing touches to walls and ceilings. Whether you are sprucing your house up for a sale or doing some renovation, wall texturing can bring life and drama to your bare walls.

With so many wall texture styles to choose from, it is no wonder why applying wall texture has maintained its popularity in any type of household all these years. It can help you achieve a faux finish of your liking that makes any wall look dramatic when properly applied.

One of the easiest things you can do to put texture and color on your wall is by using texture paint, which has two different forms. A paint to which loose texture has been added (like sand) is the most frequently used. Manufacturers have also produced paint texture additives that can be combined with any paint, be it latex or enamel (oil-based).

The styles of wall texturing include broken leather, broken leather laced, swirl, swirl laced, bark, bark laced, broken swirl, broken swirl laced, medusa, scroll, stipple, old plaster, and knifed plaster. These patterns have accompanying techniques that make the finished looked simply amazing.

Wall Texture Supplies

The first thing you need to prepare are wall texture supplies in order to get your work faster and easier. You will need mixing tools, which is a circular plastic mixer with a molded collar that can be attached to a wooden pole and used to hand mix texture; and a rectangular plastic mixer attached to a metal shaft and used to mix texture with an electric drill.

You will also need preparation tools, which are a flexible caulking blade used to apply and smoothen textured coatings, and to tape plasterboard, dry wall joints, as well as filling in. It comes in three sizes, 8", 10", and 12 inches. An applying texture brushes is used for laying texture materials.

Texturing tools include a stipple brush used to create patterns like swirls, stipple, scroll, broken swirl, and broken leather. Texturing combs are intended for use in creating intricate comb designs. Combs achieve the patterns of basket, circle, pairs, basket and flower, circle and fan, basket and roses, as well as hook and line. They are also effective at produce patterns created around light fittings and as decorative borders.

A pattern roller is a professional roller made of plastic, with a smooth face used to mimic the appearance of bark patterns. Lastly, the lacing tool is a blade used to smoothen tips of denser, abstract wall texture technique like broken leather, bark, and swirl. The lacing technique can make smooth, spike-free, and, thus, safer textures on walls and ceilings.
Wall Texturing Applications
Once you have decided on a pattern, these tools should come in handy, although experts do not recommend using spray tools for spray wall texture since the additives might damage the tool. A brush is typically used in corners unable to fill by rollers, which is called cutting-in.

You can also apply the wall texturing technique called "stippling", which employs the paint roller to achieve textures. The stippling effect is best applied when working on a thick paint like oil-based paint. Latex (water-based) paints may also apply using stipple roller cover. It is similar to the former but its nap is firmer and more durable enabling it to stand despite being wet with paint.

How To Remove Wall Texture

To remove texture from a wall and leave a smooth surface, simply scrape the entire surface with the use of a tough scraper to work through the paint. Then soak sponge into warmer water and apply on the surface so as to saturate the texture. Then, continue on with scraping until you get to the bottom plastered surface. It should come off with ease.

Wall texturing is a simple way to add drama to your wall. After all, when it comes to dressing up your wall, your personality will surely apply.
