Home Theater Systems

So you're now all too excited to set up a home theater system and you've bought the essential elements that speaks for a home theater. There is one you haven't done, though – setting up your home theater audio system. You've learned from previous readings that no one element in home theater should be overlooked to experience high quality home theater – and this includes the home theater speaker system.

Mediocre home theater systems are out. Instead, go for upscale surround sound system that doesn't quit before the movie ends. It's the age of state-of-the-art home theater systems and you certainly don't want to be left behind in the scene. Once and for all, home theater systems are replica of a real cinematic system in a motion picture theater.

Today's home theater systems are recorded in digital sound tracks that employ either one or more of the following formats: DTS Digital, Dolby Digital, and SDDS. However, only DTS Digital and Dolby Digital have residential counterparts. The type of format affects how speakers function or reproduce sound.

To guide you on that, here are several elements to consider when selecting and setting home theater audio systems: (1) the speaker should be able to reproduce sound elements accurately; (2) the intensity of volume the speaker is capable of reproducing, which is determined by the speaker's capabilities in relation to the size of the room;

(3) does the size and appearance of the home theater speaker system blend with the décor; and (4) are they within your budget. In the latter's case, no component should function better than the other in the system series to get a uniform effect.

Putting the home theater system components in their right places is vital to recreate the sound track of the motion picture the way they are intended in the real movie. The placement of the screen will dictate where the speakers need to go. Most homes have their screens in the corner or on one side of a wall. They key to layout is symmetry, and you need to understand the relationship of seating and the placement of home theater systems.

Home theater speaker systems may be configured as follows: having three speakers positioned at left, right, and center of the front of the room. These three speakers predominantly play the main audio elements of a movie such as the dialogue, background music, and effects. Next, you'd usually need two to four surround speakers and more than one subwoofers (an audio driver meant to reproduce bass frequencies).

Home Theater Systems Placements

Experts recommend that home theater speaker systems should be positioned in a circular placement, to create equal distances from the seats or listening position of the viewers; but this should only be employed if no more than two people use the home theater. If you're like most people who use the facility with family and friends, you can optimize the speakers' function by aligning them across your front wall while mounting the surrounds at the rear walls. This is to avoid the circular pattern.

The Center Channel Speaker needs to be located at the center of the projector screen to keep its proper localization. However, this would entirely impossible when using rear projection or direct view device. When your screen is any of those two mentioned, the best placement for the center channel speaker is at the top or directly below the middle portion of your screen. The placement of the center channel speaker is crucial since this device produces approximately 60-70% of a movie's soundtrack.

Another consideration is the left and right speakers that pan sound across the room and create a sense of expansiveness for the soundtrack but ensure that each speaker complements the central speaker to serve its purpose.

If you have been annoyed with all the home theater systems wirings, technological advancement has now paved for the advent of wireless home theater systems. Installing a wireless home theater system effectively eliminates all the dirty wirings running on the floor. Wireless might just be the answer for you.

Home theater system components are a complement of one another. The efficacy of one is no guarantee that you'll experience high quality audio. In home theater systems, mediocrity has no place.
